ABOUT KASKO

Reality is weird, complex, and big. In collaboration with young and fresh performers, KASKO
is taking a closer look at this absurd truth.

Over the past years, KASKO has taken many shapes. It has morphed from opera-house to
musical theatre. Now KASKO has crystallised into a cross-disciplinary company. Led by
artistic director Hendrik Aerts, theatre develops like a living organism; musicians work with
their body, actors with music, dancers use text, all without losing their trade. Everything.
Influences. Everything.

For the coming years KASKO will present a new production each season. During the
development of these projects, the cast will rehearse and reside in 8 different theatres.
The result of these weeks will tour around festivals and theatres throughout the country.
These performances all base themselves around intersectional societal topics;
refuge, isolation, sexwork, utopia’s. Within these themes humour and tragedy intertwine, and the mundane meets the metaphysical.
KASKO collaborates with young professionals. During the residencies at several theatres,
they will gain experience and will be working on a sustainable network of fresh performers.

ABOUT HENDRIK AERTS

After his own foundation ‘moOn productions’, Hendrik Aerts joins the new KASKO to expand
upon his mission to break down barriers between different theatrical disciplines. Next to his
activities at KASKO, Hendrik teaches physical play at ArtEZ Arnhem, HKU, and teaches
guest-classes at ArtEZ Zwolle.

Within the new KASKO, Hendrik aims to inspire young performers to move outside the
bounds of their own disciplines. Even though KASKO experiences a clear desire within
performers, schools, and the professional field to experiment with boundaries, curricula
remain focused on teaching only one trade. The collaborations that Hendrik centres in his
practice, form the foundation of his cross-disciplinary philosophy
